To recognise the trailblazers in the extractives industry we are adding a new award to this year’s Komatsu New Zealand Women in Extractives event, to be held on Thursday 20 March 2025 in Christchurch.
Sponsored by Access Minerals Limited, the Extractives Trailblazer Award will recognise someone who has paved the way, and/or continues to pave the way for women to enter into and thrive in the extractives industry. They will have worked to change the environment to be inclusive.
Hosted by Straterra, AQA and MinEx and supported by IOQNZ and AusIMM, this event celebrates diversity and inclusion in the extractives sector. In addition to the new award, the other awards reflecting the talent in the quarrying, mining, and tunnelling industries are:
The Kristy Christensen Memorial Award (sponsored by MinEx and named in honour of its late former Board member) will recognise someone who, like Kristy, is a champion for diversity.
The Emerging Star Award (sponsored by MITO) will recognise a person who over the past year, and during their career, has brought fresh ideas to their role and demonstrated unwavering commitment to outstanding personal performance, and innovative thinking to provide value for their company, as well as for themselves. In demonstrating innovation, they will have shown consideration for all their colleagues.
The Leader of the Year (sponsored by Hanga-Aro-Rau Workforce Development Council) will recognise a leader who has demonstrated vision, dedication, and determination for their team to succeed. This person will be a leader who develops their team members through purpose and passion, sharing of experience, and a commitment to teamwork. They will have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion in their everyday work.
Nomination forms are available here and are due by close of business on Friday 21 February 2025. Judging will be completed by a panel from Straterra, AQA and MinEx.
The event runs from 10.30am until 3.30pm and includes a pre-lunch session with a keynote speaker and panel discussion, with four hours of unrestricted CPD. The awards will be made throughout lunch.
