Bruce Logan Hayhow passed away on Sat 25 Jan 2020, aged 83 years.
Bruce was associated with the Institute of Quarrying for many years. He served on both the local (Auckland Branch) and was Secretary of the National IOQNZ Board. His organisational skills arranging for the Auckland-based Annual Conferences was greatly appreciated.
He presented papers at the IOQNZ Conferences: “Stockton Slurry Plant” (New Plymouth 1983), “Bulk Explosives” (Auckland 1989) and received the Lyn Jordan “Best Technical Paper” trophy for “Blasting Beyond 2000” presented at Waitangi 1993. Bruce also was recognised locally in 1995 and was awarded the Paykel Shield for “Outstanding Service to the local branch over the years”.
In his role as Sales Manager, Explosives Division ICI NZ Ltd (now Orica), he was in contact with many within the quarrying industry across New Zealand. He organised several trips to the Waitawa (Kawakawa Bay, Auckland) Explosives Depot for the benefit of the IOQ members
Bruce had a magical warm personality and will be missed by many.
