Jim Gardner, NZ Sales Manager for Komatsu awarded the 2004 travel voucher to Warwick Leach of HG Leach & Co quarry, Tirohia

Warwick is Quarry Production Manager for H G Leach & Company Ltd, managing four hard rock quarries in the Thames Valley region. Warwick has a staff of 20 operating between the four sites.

Over and above his responsibilities as Quarry Production Manager, Warwick has made a significant contribution to the Institute and the Quarry Industry over the last 23 years. .

Some of his significant achievements include:
Staff training.
Over the last 7 years Warwick has trained, mentored, coached and encouraged no less than the following:

  • Three staff members to attain A Grade Quarry
  • Five staff members to attain B Grade Quarry Managers Certificates.
  • Four staff members to attain Surface Quarry Managers Certificates.
  • One staff member to attain a Construction Blasters Certificate of Competence.

Over the last four years Warwick has undertaken further training with EXITO. Six of his staff including himself have now been awarded their National Certificate in Extractive Industries (Operation) Surface Extraction and await the award of the National Certificates.

Warwick was recipient of the Quarry Industry Safety Award in 1999, which is indicative of the standard of operations, which he manages on his sites.

Warwick has been a committee member of the Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the Institute of Quarrying for a number of years, culminating in his election as Branch Chairman in May 2001, and a position he still holds today. In his capacity as Branch Chairman Warwick has made a significant contribution to the local branch of the IOQ, where he enjoys significant support of his peers. He is a member of the national IOQ executive committee.

Warwick?s quarry sites have an impeccable record of environmental compliance and this proactive management style has held the Company in good stead under the RMA, ensuring environmental responsibilities are met at all times.
