On 10 Feb 2004, a mine-worker was fatally injured whilst working in the workshop at the Century zinc mine in north-west Queensland.
At about midnight 9/10 February, a tyre fitter was working with another person removing an outer rear wheel of a Komatsu 830E haul truck. A sudden release of stored energy from the inner wheel projected the outer wheel some 15 metres where it fell on top of the tyre-fitter causing fatal injuries. The second worker received injuries to his jaw, resulting in him being taken to hospital.
The Mines Inspectorate from the Mounbt Isa Office traveled to the mine by aircraft to commence investigations. An investigation report will be provided to the Chief Inspector of Mines and to the Coroner
